About Us

Bill Auvenshine is a 6th dan and Patty Auvenshine is a 5th dan black belt in Tae Kwon Do. They first opened their school in October of 1997. From the start they have been active in the community, following their belief that a martial arts school has a responsibility to the community it serves.

Mr. Auvenshine is a bit of an oddity in martial arts. In December of 1995, Bill had an encounter with an unseen patch of ice and a power line pole that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Even that did not dissuade him from following through with his plans to open a dojang. Though Mr. Auvenshine teaches from a wheelchair, his students are of a high caliber. In keeping with the idea of "giving back", Mr. Auvenshine teaches his art to those with serious disabilities at no charge.

Between Mr. Auvenshine's ability to inspire and motivate, and Mrs. Auvenshine's knowledge of fitness and instructing, from her 20 plus years of teaching P.E. and Health, they form a "dynamic duo" that is hard to beat.

Master Chris Szabo runs our Taylorville location. He is a 5th Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo. Master Szabo has lived in Taylorville his entire adult life. He is a respected and well-liked member of the community. He is a valuable asset to Auvenshine's School of Taekwondo and we are very pleased to have him.
